When certifying pre-existing / uncertified or prototype software or firmware, requirements will need to be reverse engineered before subsequent formal lifecycle processes can begin.  There are certainly hazards with this type of project for the unwary and Avionyx has been through it numerous times and understands how to navigate these hazards successfully.
