Avionyx Consolidates Its Operations in Costa Rica and Announces New Hires


San José, December 19, 2023. The company Avionyx, based in Heredia, announced the expansion of its operations in Costa Rica, with the aim of expanding its range of services for the support operation of its subsidiary company owned by Joby Aviation. And the creation of new jobs that promote innovation in the aerospace sector, hand in hand with Costa Rican talent.


The company foresees the creation of more than 40 new knowledge-intensive jobs as a direct result of the expansion of its facilities in the country. These job opportunities will be distributed in various areas, with an estimated 30 new hires in engineering, 9 in shared services and 2 in administrative roles by 2024.


Avionyx is an AS9100-certified software engineering services company specialized in the development and verification of avionics system software. This company has more than 120 trained professionals, innovative tools, and high quality and rigorous processes. Avionyx was acquired in 2022 by Joby Aviation, a California-based company dedicated to developing an electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicle (eVTOL) for commercial passenger service to support its aircraft type certification program with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).


Didier Papadopoulos, head of Joby Aviation’s aircraft program commented on the new investment in the country and the benefits it brings to local talent, “Avionyx has provided outstanding software development and certification services to the aerospace industry for over 30 years, with deep expertise in requirements, design, and a variety of verification activities. We are excited to invest in the ongoing growth of the team in Costa Rica by establishing new facilities that increase capacity for system-level testing for both the Joby aircraft and many other aerospace customers.”


In addition, Laura López, General Manager of PROCOMER, highlighted Costa Rica’s value proposition for this sector, as it has the requirements and highly qualified personnel to continue attracting successful investments to the country.

Costa Rica continues to consolidate its position as a supplier of aeronautical equipment. Exports in this sector reached $7.9 million as of October of this year, with the United States as its main trading partner with a 49% share.
